    Hello,

I have a Lite-On DVDRW SOHW- 1633S disc drive. It hasn't been responding for awhile now. The door opens and closes fine. Then it makes a little bit of noise, but doesn't sound like the disc is spinning. Under my device manager it appears to be fine with no yellow exclamation marks next to it. When there's a disc in the drive, I'll go under My Computer and double click the drive to see if it is atleast recognizing the disc and it shows a folder under "files ready to be written to the CD" and the file waiting to be written is:

Windows XP SP2 Professional CD FULLY WORKING DON"T HAVE TO CALL

I find this odd because I don't have a blank cd in the drive, rather a DVD. Also, I don't even have XP Pro on my PC, I have Home.

Just a note, my power supply is on it's way out and I'll be replacing shortly, but I do have a 2nd Lite-On drive that works fine.

    HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

    Hi

What I would try first is this HERE and see if the upper and lower filters are the cause as they do seem to be in many cases, this issues comes about when installing or uninstalling 3rd party applications that use any burning capabilities.

I would also unplug the burner from the motherboard and then plug in the cables again and if possible change the ribbon cable for a new one.

The Microsoft scan didn't work, but it for Vista....not sure if that matters because I have XP Home. I then turned off my PC so I could disconnect the drive from the MB. Upon rebooting, I got a popup that said my windows wasn't activated??? I never seen this before. Anyways, I activated my Windows and it appears to be fine. Also, my drive still isn't responding. When I put a DVD in the drive, I'll go to My Computer, double click the drive and it says please insert disc. I think my drive may be junk.....I dont know.

Thankfully, drives are cheap these days.
