dvd/cd drive gone

Hello I'm new here so please be patient with me. I have looked to see if this question has already been asked and was not able to find one.

Last night my computer froze on me. I had to reboot it. This morning I no longer have a dvd/cd drive. I don't even see it in device mangager.

I think something bad happened. Can anyone help me?

New info: Last night I upgraded from nero6.0 to 6.3

Drive wont do anything. Doesn't show up in explorer.
Door wont open.

 

Well, I don't know what to say...... I had rebooted my computer probably 2-3 times to see if that would help. But it didn't. I thought I would shut it off again and just check all cables and blow out any dust that may be in the case. Now it works.

Do you think it was that or do you think it was something else? If it was something else how can I make sure it doesn't happen again?

 

How do I know if I need a firmware update?

Now this isn't a joke. lol

 

Start, run and type in regedit then OK.

Find the following key,

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Delete both the Upper and Lower Filters and reboot.

You may have to reinstall burning software if it no longer works.


*Only work on the Registry after taking necessary precautions.
