DVD/CD drive not detecting anything.

I have tried uninstalling and installing it, but it still doesn't work. When I go into device properties, it says the drive is working fine. Any CD I put in (DVD, CD-RW, music CD, games) does not get detected. The green light comes on, and it sounds as if it is trying to work, and then nothing happens. I'm sorry if this isn't enough information but Im not too good with computers....at all.

Also, I opened it up and unplugged and replugged everything in there, but I really don't think the cables are the problem.

Help me please!

Edit: I also tried a cleaning CD (it has little brushes on it) but even that didn't get detected.

Unfortunately, it sounds to me like the drive has read its last disc. You can try hooking up the CD drive to a friends PC, or create a bootable CD on a PC that has a working CD burner and then try booting to it in your PC to see if the CD drive works independent of Windows. Those are the only 2 ways I can think of to test it. If you have access to a PC with a CD burner, use something like a bootable memory diagnostic (there's one at this link; you can use it to create an .ISO file which you'd then burn as an image to a CD-R or CDRW) or a bootable HD daignostic (download from your hard drive maker's web site).... -OR- if you have your Windows install disc, try booting to it. If you can boot to it, then we know the drive itself is OK and that the problem is elsewhere.

i am having this same issue except it's when i did an update with window's vista that it stopped working any suggestions?

sorry for taking so long to reply, my keyboard broke and I had to get a new one :\

Also, I agree, It has probably read its last disc and im going to get a new one. Thanks.
