Hey guys, hopefully some of you guys could help me here.

Got a friends PC here, but I cant get the dvd rom and cd rom to be detected and show up on My Computer.

I also cant get them to show up on BIOS.

They are connected to Channel 2 via 1 IDE cable which connects boths ROMS and then into the motherboard.

The hard disk has its own end to end cable going into channel 1.

Hard disk is detected perfectly and works fine, computer boots up and C Drive is there and working. However there is no other ROM drives.

Cable 1 = Hard Disk (jumper set to master). - Plugged into Channel 1

Cable 2 = DVD ROM(jumper set to master) + CD ROM(jumper set to slave) - Plugged into Channel 2

What im thinking here is that the Channel 2 is gubbed/broken?

Because if I switch the ROM drives cable to channel 1 (with computer with no hard disk) BIOS will detect them fine.

Few questions, is there anything else that could cause them not to be detected on channel 2 but be detected on channel 1?

Iv also tried to just use one DVD ROM and a hard disk.

    Hard Disk - Master
    DVD Rom - Slave

^ both on the same cable, but I'm getting an ATAPI incompatable message (the jumpers are set to what it says above).

Is the motherboards channel 2 screwed?

check for .inf chipset update and/or bios update for the board also check in bios and make sure there are no settings in bios disabling 2nd slot(dont know if bios has such a thing but just a shot at it )AND make sure master is at end of cable and slave 2nd. there may also be a bent pin causing the problem so look carefully at the socket. hope that helps

Just updated the BIOS to the latest version.

All the jumpers are set correctly on the drives.

Computer still wont detect the drives on channel 2 ? :S

also cant get the front USB/ethernet ports to work.

Could it be the a certain area of the baord is getting powered?

I have the main power connect rectangle pugged in.

Also got 2 4box cubed connectors. One of them (this one has a small clip), lugs in to the other power plug.

Whats the extra 4 cubed connector for (it doesnt have a clip)?

the extra 4 cube is for boards that have 8 pin instead of 4 pin additional power. But to the problem at hand I would have to say your secondary may well be dead

My cd-rom and usb ports will only work if I reboot. I used to could a dvd in and it would come up immediately as well as a storage device now I have to reboot to make it work. Any one help me out?
