hi sorry I think I am in the wrong section. It seems to be more of a media issue. How do I get moved to multi media?

    Hi

No your in the correct place, and try this HERE (it is to remove the upper and lower filters which can affect the playback of DVD and CDs)

Also do tell us what your Windows version and Service Pack is? may help later if other instructions are needed.

Has this just started, did you install any new software (if so what) just before this happened?

Have you scanned for malware? or have you reciently removed any malware?

hi, thank you. Its a Dell Inspiron 1501 and we are running Windows XP. Actually I just went through the malware process to clean it up. I am working on my Dads lap top.I ran the scan as requested and it said there were no issues. Basically from what I can tell he doesnt have anything as far as programs to get it to work. I added real player but it only allowed for CD play back. Its a DVD re-writable so I am trying to get the whole package to work. He does have windows media player but its not working at all. I get a blank screen. He is not sure if it has ever worked as he hasnt tried it. I checked the device manager and everything is working fine.

I have a question. I tried one of the downloads for dvd burners, but it said I had to down load some k codec thing? what is it and should it take 3 hours to burn a DVD?

Not usually but if the burner is slow and it is a two sided DVD, it might take pretty long.

As far as k codecs, those are needed to play DVDs; they are not needed to see if burning works.

i am not really sure if I am doing this write. When I try to burn a DVD it goes to the file that says items ready to burn. But only the option to burn a CD is coming up. Are all DVD ROM writeable ? How do I tell if mine is? I downloaded something called DVD maker from the list. The file I am testing is an AVI file and it says it will take 96 mins but its taking longer than that. Is there a better program that I can try thats simpler. This is form my 64 year old dad so I need a simple as possible.

Hi sorry to repost, I tried that link that was provided earlier again. I originally only checked for reading. But this time I checked for writing and I got a bunch of stuff I am not sure about so I have attached the log. Does this mean that I can burn DVDs?:cry
