DVD Conversion Query

Hey Guys,
if i have a media file for e.g something in AVI or MPEG... do i need to convert it to a different format in order to successfully burn it onto a DVD that can be played through a DVD player... if i do... any ideas on programs that can do this.... if i dont... what is the process of burning it so that the DVD will play through a player... i burn through NERO 6 Express..

VSO Convert to DVD will do the job -> find it here. I've had no problems with it all, and found it most reliable.

All you need to do then is burn it to DVD using the burner of your choice, certainly Nero will do it.

VSO Convert to DVD will leave a watermark on the DVD if you just run the free version. Alternatively you can buy it, as I recently did, and it is a great piece of easy-to-use software.
