DVD Copying

hi everyone,

i recently bought a new computer and it has a dvd rw drive in it. i burn cd's all the time. i was wondering what program i need to use to copy a dvd to a cd. i have nero and roxio, probably some other on the computer. all im really wondering about it what i need to copy a dvd i bought in a store. all help is appreciated! thanks.

 

You have a DVD burner and you want to copy to CD? Try DVD Shrink (here at MG http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4020.html ) It will allow you to back-up a DVD to a standard recordable DVD that acn be played in most DVD players. The description claims it doesn't burn them, but I used it yesterday and it burned it for me.

 

ok i downloaded the dvd shrink 3.1 .... i get everything set and i go to put it on backup and i get an error:

DVD SHRINK ENCOUNTERED A PROBLEM AND CANNOT CONTINUE
FAILED TO READ FILE E:/
THE WRONG DISKETTE IS IN THE DRIVE
INSERT %2 (VOLUME SERIAL NUMBER %3) INTO DRIVE %1

anyone knows what this means or can tell me what im doing wrong? thanks again!

 

Did you put in a recordable DVD, not a CD? Is drive E the DVD drive?

 

alrighty im starting to figure everything out. i got it all backed up and everything then i fell asleep sitting here. ill try to burn it later. thank you for all of your help

alright...another problem, i get the dvd and everything backed up and saved as an iso file. i try opening it in nero and i get an error, i try opening it in roxio and it just tells me to put a blank disc in the drive when there is one there already. can someone help me now? its all saved i just need to know how to put it on a disc. thanks again

 

I know nothing about Roxio, but I use Nero 6. Are you using Nero Burning ROM? If you are, you must select image files to be opened from the dropdown menu. Here is a screenshot. Don't forget to select DVD as the burning option

 

sorry but how do i make image files? can you make a step by step procedure of what i need to do? im really confused now. thank you so much.

An ISO is a disc image file. What did you use to backup the DVD?

i used the dvd shrink to backup the dvd as an iso file, then i went to dvd decrypter and write the dvd and it works! woo hoo thanks for ur help

I would suggest that you either disable or remove Roxio from your computer. Nero will do all that you want to and Roxio causes conflicts with you drives. Bobby
