DVD crashes win xp

Every time I try to play one particular dvd that I burned, the computer shuts down and restarts giving an error message: The system has recovered from a serious error..."
I have installed a new dvd drive and the same thing happens. The dvd works well in my dvd player and on my brother's laptop. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is happening and why?

Try downloading one of the codec packs from the multimedia section and install that. It can't hurt anything... maybe try a different media player... I had a movie that I downloaded and it would freeze up my PC; then I installed 'Codec8.0_NT' that I downloaded from here, then used XVid for playback and it now plays just fine! Give it a shot....

Similar thing happened on one of my computers last year. It started after I'd been using it to make backup copies of some DVDs using DVD Decrypter. It was fine for the whole time I did this (9 DVD boxed set), but a few days later, the computer would crash as soon as I inserted any DVD.
I cured it by uninstalling everything except essential software, until it stopped crashing. I then reinstalled the software, and it was ok after that.

 

Did you ever find out what program caused the problem? Were you able to re-install all your programs?

 

Not sure. The ones I uninstalled (and in some cases reinstalled) were, as far as I can remember,

DVD Shrink (not reinstalled)
DVD Decrypter (not reinstalled)
Cyberlink Power DVD
Sonic Record Now DX
Adobe Premiere Pro
Adobe Premiere Elements 1
Broderbund MovieShop
Codec Pack (not sure which one but it was free)

There may have been others, but that's all I can remember for now.
