 I use windows multi media xp OS, and recently got a catalogue on dvd and tried to play it. I was told I had no dvd decoder. I tired in my old computer and it runs fine, so I am wondering why my brand new OS didn't have the decoder installed. BTW it runs moves fine.

I do some research and find out that the decoder is not installed with win xp as a matter or course, so I spend much time going through all cds to find such a decoder and cannot find anything.

Well this is not quite true i found power dvd and it plays the sound of the cd but no visual appears and it won't run through the media center at all.

Any idea where this decoder may be hiding or how to get one for free?

If you're like me, you don't want to bother with codecs at all! I use VLC Media Player which has just about every codec you could ever need built right in. I've yet to find a filetype this baby won't play. I rate it as a must have!
