    - Hey I was wondering if there was anyway i can install or get a DVD viewer for my computer here at work. I don't have the admin rights to install things (IT guys). Is there a program that streams from online etc. or am I just screwed. Shareware/Freeware would be what I'm looking for.

VLC Media player is a SWEET free way to play videos. I'm not certain whether it can stream video though. I'd have to check. It wouldn't be surprising to me though, as VLC = VideoLAN Converter...

It's worth checking out anyway. It's free, it's lightweight, it's open source, and using it, I've never had to download a single codec. It's played EVERYTHING for me.

I agree. VLC is the ticket. Get it here: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html Get the zip package, as it has the standalone VLC executable inside for those in your position and those who don't want an installer, not the installer executable since you lack admin. rights.

Stop, think what your doing, why are you watching dvd's at work? If it is a legit reason then your local it department would be glad to help you.

Cheers JP! I had misread the line saying that he DOESN'T have admin rights. I'm glad that you chimed in with that bit.

And Coleman, not that I care, but its looked down upon when you post anything outside technical help. I've been chewed out for expressing distaste in software choices, and your post is much the same as my own. Again, I don't care; it's just a caution.

Alls i am saying is that will probably use lots of bandwidth that the company is paying for that maybe needed for actual business activities. If he really has any need to be watching dvd's at work then he should have the IT department install an dvd viewing program. Its not really looking down on the software solution, but looking down on the guy for miss using company time to watch dvds.

Colemanguy is right - misappropriation of company resources can be very serious. You should always check thinks out with your IT guys. -- But this in not to the place to fight it out.
