DVD Drive Dissapeared

Hi, I am running win XP, my computer has decided not to recognise the DVD drive on my computer or anywhere else and I can't seem to retrieve it. It has worked fine for several years, can anyone help??

Hi

So it doesnt show up on My Computer?

Does it show up in Disk Managment? ( goto Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management > Disk Managment )

Do you have any error ! marks in Device Manager ( same location as above in Computer Managment for ease of finding )

Does it open when you press tray eject? if not shutdown PC and check cables are firmly connected to CD drive

Have you installed any new biring software of late?

A possible is that the driver is corrupted and you can delete it from Device Manager > reboot and XP will aquire the driver again as its a standard driver, and/or also run this http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=145532

thanks,
No it doesnt show in disk management
Yes there is an error icon in Device Manager
Tray eject works ok
No new installations,

But i was uninstalling some stuff around the same time??
