DVD Drive isn't working

When I try to burn my dvd on sonic, the drive recognizes the dvd drive with only 500 MB of free space, when it is a blank 4.7 GB dvd. does anyone have any solutions?

 

More info on your system would be helpful - the more data the easier it is to find a solution to a problem.

Some things to try:

--Have you tried another program besides Sonic to burn a DVD? If so, do you get the same result?

--Clean the DVD burner, using a cleaning disk available at most department stores - you can use one meant for CD-players. Repeat the cleaning process several times, especially if the device has not been cleaned in a while.

--If using XP or newer - go into device manager, locate and delete your DVD burner. Reboot, and let the OS find your "new" hardware and install it.
