    What is a pof computer?
    Make and model of computer? (so we can find what hardware you have) What service packs are installed in XP?

    Well, that would explain the OS, but what about the Computer itself?

    The first piece of hardware that usually shoots craps is the CD/DVD drive.

    In hardware management, take out all the CD drivers and reboot and let Windows reinstall the drivers. It it was just a driver problem, then it will start working.

    There is one more fix, for a good drive that's just not working in Windows.
    You can edit the registry and remove upper and lower filters.
    Here's a little script that will do it for you, so you don't have to muck about in the registry.

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
    "LowerFilters"=-
    "UpperFilters"=-

    Open Notepad (NOT wordpad) and copy the above blue lines and paste them into a new Notepad document. Then save it with a name like "RemoveFilters.reg", to your desktop. Run the script once and then reboot and see if your CD drive will work.

    If not, then install a new one.

    Cheers mate!
