DVD drive won't work

whenever i put a DVD into the drive the drive will go from DVD-RAM Drive(E: ) to CD Drive (E: ) and I cannot get the DVD to work, CD's however will work

I have an HP Laptop running Windows XP, and the drive is HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4084N

Can someone please help me with this problem

Hi

First off try the information in this thread http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=145532 to delete the upper/lower filters, you may need to reinstall your burning software if after deleting the filters this is quite normal as its likely thst burning or software that has the capability to burn can corrupt these filters

I don't understand where I go from here. It says to delete the upper and lower filters.I don't know what those are?

Hi

Maybe easier for you to run the Fixit HERE as its an automated option.

Other than that in Device Manager uninstall your CDROM/DVD device then reboot and the driver will re-install.

:crybaby ok first it wouldnt let me download it because i had the wrong internet browser, so i used internet explorer, and then it said i couldnt download it because my .NET Framework needed to be updated, so i tried download that but it wouldnt download, ugh!!

do you have any other solutions?

Hi

Yes try deleting your CDROM from Device Manger and rebooting, and the OS should re-install the CDROM driver again.

I tried that too, but it didnt fix the problem
