DVD Drive wont work

Hiya, long time no see, but i need your help guys . everytime i put a dvd or cd into my NEC ND2510A DVD/RW drive doesnt read it, if i look in my computer, at my dvd drive, it doesnt show the disk in the drive, the light comes on the drive but it doesnt flash , the disk icon appears next to the mouse cursor, but it doesnt work.... any ideas? Thanks

 

have you checked your device manager to see if there are any errors with the drive?

 

checked and it says no errors, it also says in device properties the device is working properly,ive uninstalled and reinstalled, tried a different IDE cable but it still aint working

 

check your event manager for any errors.

Does the drive work with other discs?

Checked for scratches on the disc?

 

how do i find my event manager?

ive tried cds and dvds, but they dont work

 

If nothing is working, the drive may be defective.

 

would the light still come on, and the disk turn? the drives only 6 months old

 

The laser could be bad. A drive can be defective in many ways and still appear to be functional.

 

is there nothing else i can do to see if its bad? or do i just av to go and buy another one

 

If it is only 6 months old, it must still be under warranty.

 

well, lets check the event viewer.
Right click on the MYCOMPUTER icon and choose MANAGE. On the left, under system tools will be the event viewer. Expand the event viewer tree and look for system Peruse for errors relating to cdrom.


But I think the drive is done for.

 

ive found a few errors relating to "DCOM" and some to "atapi" and some to "Service Control Manager"

 

let me a copy and paste of the ATAPI ones.

hmm.. if you have your Hard drive and your dvd drive on the same cable plugged into IDE1, you may want to plug the DVD drive into the second channel (IDE2). This will require you to make sure that the jumper settings are set to master for the dvd drive. The jumpers are on the back of the drive near the power connector. There should also be a diagram on the drive that denotes what position the jumper needs to be in to be set to master.

 

ive put the dvd drive on a separate IDE cable to IDE2 and set the drive to master, it still dont work

 

Check your event viewer for the same event ID 11 that may have occurred after you made the change.If you see it again, then I'm going to have to say the drive is toast.

 

ive checked the event viewer and theres no errors since ive changed the ide cable and port

I believe it is no longer functional.
