    Hello,

I uninstalled a Intervideo WinDVD the other day and I think I made a big mistake when I clicked for it to delete files that it warned may be used by other applications. Since then, my DVD drives are not working.

I have checked the Device Manager and they are listed, but have yellow exclamation markes and the device status says:

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

the two drives I have are:
    _NEC DVD_RW ND-3520A
    SAMSUNG DVD-ROM SD-616E

I have gone through the troubleshooter for the devices with no luck. I removed each device and went through add new hardware and it finds the devices, but the plug&play reports that a problem has occurres during the hardware installation and may not be working properly. And I'm back with the devices listed, but a problem with the drivers.

I have tried to locate drivers online, but can't seem to find them....

I do have the following 2 CD's that came with the pc from Dell labeled:
1 - "Drivers and Utilities" Already Installed on our Computer, Dell Dimension Resource CD
2 - "Reinstallation CD - Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition"
....... the only problem is that since my drives are not working, I can't access the CD's

Anybody have an idea of how to remedy this? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    JB

A little more info..... I just swapped out one of my drives for an old one I had laying around and it does the same thing. I recognizes the drive, but shows a yellow exclamation mark in the Device Manager........... ugh

Whooooo...... I was able to fix it!! I did some more searching and found the following tip:

CD drives may vanish in Windows Explorer, Device Manager, etc. if a third-party CD-burning package has been uninstalled and Registry references for some code modules aren’t removed successfully. This patch and a reboot usually will restore the missing drives. Any third party package still required will then have to be re-installed.

The patch is called the CDGONE patch and I found it here:

I'm not sure if I'm supposed to post that. If not, Im sorry, but I thought if anyone had this same problem, maybe this thread would help them....
