    hello

i am having a problem with media player classic x64 (64 bit) and x86 (32 bit). i recently backed up a 2tb external drive's worth of data to my new external 4 tb by western digital. When i play dvd file "video_ts.ifo" with either x64 or x86 it'll play but if i fast forward or skip to a channel it freezes and then crashes. it doesn't happen on video files stored on my internal hdd's. i ran a quick test on my WD 4tb drive on app called Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows and i passed the quick test. i really don't want to run the extended test on this drive cause it takes around 24 hours on my computer. i don't have usb 3.0 but the wd technician said i could run into problems with data lifeguard diagnostic cause of using 2.0 usb. i uninstalled mpc x64 and the settings through the uninstaller thinking it would set my settings to default. i started having this problem tonight. i plan to format my OS drive and have a fresh start again but i wanna know if someone can help me with this problem in casue i have it after i format the os drive. also my dvd software works find with these dvd files. and vlc player doesn't seem to have a problem.

    Windows 8.1 Pro
    Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) 9750 Quad-Core Processor 2.40 GHz
Installed memory (RAM): 8.00 GB (7.75 GB usable)
System type: 64-bit Operating System, x64 based processor
Display adapters: ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM v1.1); ATI Radeon HD 4600 Series (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM v1.1)

as you probably tell above i don't have nvidia. i guess its cause i don't have a chipset for it?? thanks in advance.

    Three thoughts:

Are you running the movies from the external drive? They tend to be slower than an internal drive (many of them) so that's a possibility. As a general rule, and that's just me, I only use my externals for back up. I have a main SSD drive, a large backup drive and a final, third external backup drive for backups only.

First rule in tech support; are your drivers up to date? If everything isn't communication properly, especially USB drivers in this case, then that can lead to problems. Try http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/iobit_driver_booster.html

At the end you mentioned you don't have nVidia and I am not sure why? AMD and nVidia are the big 2, either video card is fine so that is not an issue at allas long as drivers are current.

Hi, I just used MPC to play a video from my external drive and encountered no problems fast forwarding etc. Some of my videos are in the video_ts format and some in video_ts.iso. For some reason when I opened the directory to choose a movie from my list only the Video_ts were shown. Maybe the problem is with the .iso extension. Perhaps it is a codec problem? If updating the drivers doesn't work, maybe try the old Windows Media Player. However, that can be temperamental as well. All good fun!!

    hello

yes im playing them from the external drive. the reason is cause i wanna make sure the videos are able to play properly. the reason is cause i used teracopy pro to copy them onto the external drive from the internal drive. teracopy pro reported one disc as "skipped". I tried the video_ts.ifo with mpc and that's where teh problem started. i just tried some dvd video "video_ts.ifo" files that were on my internal drive including the one that skipped on teracopy pro. it played fine with mpc. its gotta be the internal drive. should i stick with mpc 32bit or 64bit? i think i read the 32 bit is more stable.

yeah i only use the external drives as back up too. i wasn't sure if my external that i recently archived some data was dying? i haven't heard any unusual noise from the external that would indicate a failing drive.

ok i will try app. btw should i use k codec pack? last night i picked the mega package after i uninstalled the 32 bit and 64 bit mpc's thinking it would help solve the problem but no cigar. i mentioned nvidia cause i was doing google and one page said something about needing the latest drivers for it to solve the problem. i guess i misread it.

ok im gonna try the app now. i will report back what i find.

what mpc are using? 64bit or 32bit. i don't use iso to open with mpc. i either mount it using virtual clone drive or i extract the contents with winrar.

personally i wouldn't use windows media player cause its nothing compared to vlc or mpc imho. but whatever works for you :)

    hi

tried driver booster 2 and it came up with like 6 outdated drivers. i was able to install of them except two, "ATI HDMI Audio" (Installed 12/25/2008; Available 12/11/2014) and Realtek High Defintion Audio (Installed 11/5/2013; Available 5/5/2015). after i tried to update it said restart coming after that and then i was in a loop when restarting the computer. it was a blue screen of death. thankfully i found a video on youtube that was very helpful. i can probably find those drivers online. but i just hope it doesn't put me in blue screen of death loop. anyone know any sites tht carries drivers like that? im gonna start preparing my backups of my OS drive so that i can reset the computer factory settings cause there's a bunch of problems on my computer. but if anyone can help with my questions i asked below especially the problem with MPC Home Cinema. BTW is it safe to install mpc home cineman 64 or 32 bit without downloading from the k-lite codec packs??

    hi

thanks for the link i will check it out!

maybe the link will have something to solve that problem with the audio drivers. if we don't find someone in time that's ok. i am gonna start backing up my OS drive with the data i wanna keep and make a list of what apps ill need to reinstall.

btw good news! i did some googling about ifo files having bad frame rate. this is what was said

"you can try tick the option: View> Renderer settings> Presentation> Enable frame time correction and see if that makes any difference."

it seems to be working now when i click on ifo files for dvd. i will report back if i have any problems with that. also reinstalled vlc and mpc 64 bit only this time. and it seems to be working better with the k-lite codecs.

    Hi,
I have Windows 7 and the MPC is the 32 bit version. When I upgrade to Win 10 there will probably be the 2 versions. I rip stacks of dvds and when I am finished I just send them to the external drive using "send to" or copy and paste, then delete the original from my internal drive. I always use this simple method for all transfers to my external drive and have about 600 gigs on it with no problems. In fact I have 2 external drives, in case one packs up. My husband's 8000 or so travel photos are on them and he would not be pleased (big understatement) to lose any so that is the safest way. I very rarely play any on the computer but usually use VLC when I do, in fact a lot of my videos are in MP4 format and I like to watch them on my iPad.
Glad you have solved your problems, I love these little puzzles! I must be a masochist.

    hi beezneez

yeah i read the 32bit mpc is more stable and more reliable than 64bit. vlc is good too. i don't know what advice other than what i said mpc. but there should be someone on here that can help you further. good luck :)

    Michael1980,

If you use VLC Media Player, or Media Player Classic - Home Cinema / Black Edition, you don't need K-Lite Codec Pack. Or any other codec pack. These players have their own codecs.

FYI If you install K-Lite Mega Codec Pack... you'll be amazed by what Windows Media Player can play.

    It's your choice. ;)

If you use VLC, you don't need codec packs. VLC contains ALL the codecs needed.
