I have several older DVD players, I've never tried them with XP. I was under the impression that later versions of Media Player, such as V. 11, could do it as a matter of course, but it appears I was wrong.

The setup for this question is I got my Dad a new 19" widescreen monitor, and he wanted to try it out on a DVD. His computer has several removable hard disks, we were trying it on the XP install disk first.

So does anyone have an idea of how to get mediaplayer to work on XP. It's either that or use an older version of a DVD player I have.

    Ideas?

Windows Xp does not include a DVD decoder, but media player can plays DVDs once a decoder is installed.

Think of a dvd decoder like a codec.

There are many, this is just an example:

I was afraid it was something like that. We have older DVD players that came with the various DVD+/-RW drives I've bought over the years, so we're not completely SOL. Thanks for the feedback.

I wouldn't be suprised if MS Windows doesn't come out with something over time, and then gets sued over it in Europe.
