Looks like my drive can play normal cd's fine, but each time I insert a new DVD I need to sit and listen to ticking noises before it finally agrees to play it. When it doesn't it just shows the empty drive icon. Do you have any idea what its problem is?

Sounds to me like the lens could use a cleaning. I would recommend that you invest in a good DVD-"compatible" lens cleaning disc from any major electronics store (Radio Hack, FutureSlop, Worst Buy)

Nope, didn't help. Does that mean the lense is damaged?

I've heard that sound before, when something in the drive is out of alignment. I'm wagering fixing it would be more expensive than replacing it.
