    I have had a LITE-ON DVD/CD drive installed (F: drive) in my P4 running XP f
    for over 12 months without any problems. Today I played around trying to install Nero and Roxio to record CDs. The F: drive no longer appears in My Computer! The drive shows up as being installed by the BIOS and by Windows but double clicking on the LITE-ON device in the System device manager says that the device driver is loaded but cannot find the device. The drive works fine in my other P4! Any ideas please?

    Try turning off the computer, unplugging the power cord to the CD drive, restarting the computer. Then shutdown again replug the CD drive and restart. I find this works better for re-installing drivers than just deleting the CD drive in system devices.

    Nero shouldn't mess with devices but Roxio is a little messier in my experience.

    Thank you sach, but that was the first thing i tried. even the new SOHW-1633S firmware upgrade I downloaded from LITE-ON itself won't recognize it.

    Googling Roxio and cd disappeared comes up with this pretty often.

    CD-ROM access is missing and messages cite error Code 31, Code 32, Code 19, Code 39, or Code 41 after you remove Easy CD Creator in Windows XP

    1. Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
    2. Locate the UpperFilters value under the following key in the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    3. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
    4. Locate the LowerFilters value under the same key in the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    5. On the Edit menu, click Delete, and then click OK.
    6. Quit Registry Editor.NOTE: After you remove the Upperfilters value and the Lowerfilters value, if you notice lost functionality in a particular program, such as CD recording software, you may need to reinstall that software. If the problem recurs, consult with the software vendor for assistance.
    7. Restart your computer.

    Although this is specific to removing Easy CD Creator, others cite this as a general fix for Code 41.
