DVD Problems

I just installed a Hitachi GD 5000 DVD drive. I don't have any supporting software. I would like to watch movies with the darn thing. How can I get the software to make this happen. Mind you I'm a very needy novice at hardware and software issues.

 

You can use windows media player but will need to pay for a dvd codec.
I would buy something like PowerDVD or on some DVDs, InterActual Player comes on the disc to install on your cpu. It's a good free player but I find that some dvds don't like it.

Freecodecinstaller from MaximusDVD lets you use WMP9 (I don't know about WMP10) as a DVD player. It worked on my 2nd computer when I installed it. I just downloaded the zip file from this link http://www.matrixnet.ru/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&req=getit&lid=35 and scanned it with Avast antivirus and A-squared and it came up clean.
