Hello, I'm new to the forum but i've been coming to the site for over a year now. I just have a question about DVD+R/DVD-Rs, can anyone tell me what is the difference between the two? I have googled for the answers myself and have found some but I'm not satisfied at the answers I got. I would prefer to get an intellectual answer from somebody here. Is there really any difference between the two? Thanks, Phillip

There's little practical difference. DVD-R was the first standard introduced and has a slighter higher level of compatibility with the earliest DVD players. Some DVRs work with one or the other disc type, but most computer DVD drives are compatibe with both formats.

From what I have heard, they were marketed by 2 different companies / consortiums, using different standards. A bit like Beta and VHS, Intel and AMD, GMH and Ford, etc.

Initially you had to choose between one or the other.

Nowadays the newer players and writers can use either.
Not really an intellectual answer, but I hope it clarifies it a little. Bazza

I was just kind of unclear about what the differences were. Thanks for the info!

You're welcome. I asked exactly the same question to a computer salesman a couple of days ago.:D ;) :) Bazza
