I will try and tell everything i know about this problem.. I know its not a computer problem but still you can call it a computer ;)

I got this Slim PS2 from a friend It can read all my games and store bought dvd's just fine (of course mine has almost no marks on the disks) But if i borrow friends games with some marks on them it will not read them at all but his Bigger PS2 can read them just fine.. If i burn some movies to dvd from my VHS tapes using my computer (using Maxell DVD+RW's) and try to play them on my little PS2 it will not read them but some times it will read them and skip alittle bit then play fine but if i turn it off and turn it back on it will not read it again. I done cleaned the leans afew times i even took the whole thing apart and cleaned it and still is doing the same thing. Anyone got any ideas? I know about the "Disk read error" that got most of the Big PS2's but i am not getting that what i am getting is "Unable to read disk":cry

The slimline PS2 has a lower spec driver than the bigger version, one of the drawbacks of getting the slimline one.

If you can get a burnt dvd to work in it then you've done pretty well because they're not supposed to work at all, according to Sony.

whenever my PS2 get that error i just take it apart and clean it (not sure about the slim one, mine is full size, 1st gen)

what i do is take off the top cover, remove the top to the disk tray, and clean off the lens with a qtip and alcohol (no, not beer lol) It will get it to read disks for a while before ive gotta clean it again.

I do that once or twice a month on my slimline PS2 and thats because you don't have to take it apart you just open its lid and clean the lens.

I am still trying to find out if maybe theres a firmware update to fix this problem with it not reading burnt dvds all the time.

well if there anything like the old chunky ps2's then not just the lens needs cleaning, sometimes the angle of the lens and assembly changes and needs to be put back. this can be done on the old chunky ps2's buy turning a large white wheel. sadly i have not opened a slimline ps2 so i dont know if it can be done. hope thats of any help.
