DVD replacement nightmare

I have an all-in-one Sony PCV-W30 computer/AV system (link to picture and here's the link to more info) and it has a built-in CDRW/DVDROM combo drive; it's basically a laptop drive stuffed in to a desktop PC and it has failed. It makes all kinds of evil grinding sounds and doesn't read anything, so we're trying to replace it. I have spent the past hour Google-ing for a service manual and the closest I got was an exploded view of the PC which doesn't really help. If anyone has a link to a "here's how to remove the CD drive from a Sony PCV-W30" guide or something else similarly useful, I'd really appreciate it! You'd think that there'd be a latch or 'switch' or something to easily remove the drive, but so far we've pulled about 30 screws and we're not any closer to getting this thing out. :cry I can see the 'critical' screw that is probably holding the drive in place, but getting to it appears to be impossible. :confused :banghead
    THANKS!

(the picture above makes the PC look like a laptop, but it's quite a bit larger and LOTS heavier than a laptop, but it does resemble a laptop in that everything is built-in and it does fold up)

See that's why you shouldn't buy computers like that. Sure it looks nice but when you try to service it you run into issues. You should have a much more practical setup. In any case I would assume you have a magnets issue. This is caused when the magnets that help spin discs inside the drive comes loose and they could be stuck on their opposite side. The best way to fix it is like you said get the drive out and open the drive up to check. If they are loose all you have to do is glue them back in place. A much more detailed explanation is needed to show you how to do so. I'm tired its one in the morning so I would just say youtube "magnet drive fix, magnet drive issue, cd/dvd rom repair, dvd rom noise fix" etc. You'll find some helpful videos.
