DVD Ripping Software

Does anyone know a good program that can Rip DVDs.
My computer isn't able to play DVD's so im just hoping to rip them to my computer AVI, MPEG and just run them from there. I haven't been able to stumble across a good one yet so can someone please help me out.

 

The only way I know of doing this would still require a dvd drive and if you had that I dont think you'd need to be posting. As I'm new here and not familiar with the rules I wont go any further into the grey area of backing up for archival purposes, but there are nice, simple, (some are even free) programs out there to do this, but you must have the proper hardware to use them(a dvd drive).

Its not illegal to back up videos which you own.

 

lol...you sounded like a Spokeperson for 321 Studios, Inc but you are right, cherish the privilege before Digital Media Copyright people fell completely under the control of Big Hollywood studios and Production companies and prohibit that right as well....

 

Go to this site http://home.earthlink.net/~cresho/vd.htm and download freecodecinstaller (#7 in list) and it will install DVD codecs for WMP9. I'm assuming you have a DVD drive and need a software player program.

Are there any rippers which automatically put it into Mpeg or AVI?

 

For that you would need a converter type program. Or use one of those full Suite type CD/DVD burning softwares like Roxio or Nero.

When I ripped the movie into AVI form the sound was like 10 minutes late. They'd be talking but you wouldn't hear what they said for like 20 minutes.

 

Why can't your computer play a DVD movie?

 

Im not sure, it just wont. I stick it in and it says its unable to verify stuff and just shows a broken thing.

 

Do you have DVD player software of some sort? In my previous post, I gave the link for freecodecinstaller, which installs DVD player codecs for WMP, so it will work as a DVD player. Why recode the movie if all you need is a DVD player?

 

Sorry fellas i'm new here and still a semi-novice when it comes to the lingo. What exactly is 'ripping'? I got an idea, but anyone wanna give it to me straight?

 

Basically, the act of extracting raw data from a CD or DVD & converting it for storage such as on a hard drive, or another CD/DVD.

Lot's of different variations to the meaning here

 

Alright I'll download it and give it a try.
But one of the previous posts gave me a link to download stuff and I did a spyware scan couple hours later and it came up with about 80+ hits.

 

I downloaded and installed the program.
It worked for the intro and than said it had to close due to a bug.
Any suggestions on how to fix it?
