Recently my CDRW and DVDROM which are on the same IDE cable and had been working stopped recognizing a CD. Device Manager shows no yellow ! and states both devices are working OK. The doors open, but no recognition.
I tried deleting and reinstallating the driver but no luck

    Win XP SP3

Hi funkeycat, does it not recognise any CD's at all, even know good ones that have been tested on another pc?

Does it have the same issues with DVD's?

Have you tried to se if it is able to burn a disc?

Neither recognize CDs. Device Manager states everything OK. One drive shows a blank disk and the other states "Insert a disk".

Could the IDE ribbon be bad?

I ran the fix automatically and no change.

Prior to the fix I found one CD that the cdrw read but not the DVD-ROM.

    This is confusing!

    Hi

Yes try a new IDE cable and try the drives one at a time on a new cable (may need to change the jumper of the slave drive to master)
