Hi, my friend has just ordered a new DVD-RW from the internet. I'm round his house now, I've plugged the drive in and the whole driuve is lifeless, no flashing, drive door wont open, Nothing! I've made sure all connections are firm and secure, the only thing I can think of is a dead drive :(

I think we will try with another drive and see if this works but in the meantime does anyone have any ideas to why the DVD drive seems lifeless?

 Errr, problem found.. IDE Cable was in upside down, normally it won't let you do this but this time.. I guess not

Glad its fixed and yes some IDE cables dont come with the key for orientation or blocked pin, so is easy to get wrong way around.
