DVD RW not responding

I have a DVD RW SHOW-16735 in my HP Pavillion 514n , I have not used this computer been a while, now microsoft recognized the cd rom, but when I placed a cd or dvd it will attemp to read but it will end not reading rolleyes..I unistall, and reinstall drivers ( which was detected by windows) and still it didn't work...also check registry and everything looks good...What else can I do???? SUGGESTIONS PLEASEEEEE!!!!!!
BY THE WAY I encounter THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY "HP 1000DV LAPTOP LIMITED EDITION" IS THIS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH HP?????
