dvd slideshow/ripping/burning software advice

hi, i have a sony dvd+rw dvd player in my computor but no software to use it. i want to be able to rip and make backups of dvd movies and my father mostly wants to be able to make dvd slide shows with music and the works. does anybody have any specific suggestions for what software i should buy that has both of these options?
Also, a lot of dvd coppying software uses a one step system, which i'm assuming you would need two dvd drives to use

Anyway, i only have one dvd writer and a cd writer on my computer. Does this mean that i have to first rip the dvd regardless of a one step system that a lot of companies advertise? thanks.

 

All the DVD decrypting or copying software like DVDShrink or DVDxCopy and even Nero would have settings for the 'Source Drive' and the 'Destination Drive'. You have to pick your DVD drive for both locations so when the program is done decrypting the movie and ready to burn it, it will prompt you for a writeable (blank) DVD media.
Full DVD suites like Nero and Roxio would have all burning functionalities that you need, there might be some free alternative just for slide shows but I don't have any names handy (I am sure someone would jump in though).

& use these with it
DVD shrink (Free)
DVD Decryptor (Free)
DVD43free (Free, only works with W2k & XP)
And if your running XP, XP's movie maker is nice too.
