    I'm not sure if this pertains but I recently had a virus called Clicker.7.BB.
    Ever since I supposedly removed it I have had problems with my DVD tray randomly opening and closing. I'm running XP with a Samsung DVD-ROM SD-612. Any ideas. Thanks to any and all that reply.

    Could be a hacker playing around with you, have you got a firewall installed?

    Try Start-->Run.
    Type in msconfig <enter> and checkout the Startup tab
    or
    Process Explorer v 9.12 http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4566

    These will show stuff that is running at startup, and/or running at any time.
    Minimise Process Explorer and drag it to the bottom of the screen and it might pick up what process is causing you grief.
    Process Explorer can be sorted in various sequences.
    Click on any column and it will sort on that column.
    Click on CPU, for example, and you can sort to ascending, or descending, CPU usage sequence.
    Let us know if this helps and what you find. Bazza

    Thanks for the reply. The tray moves in and out weather I'm connected to the internet or not. I assume something resides on my hard drive that I can't seem to delete!

    Loaded Process Explorer and ended up wth a zip file. Tried to run it but didn't have much luck. Not exactly a software wizard!!! Odd that DVD drive stopped randomly opening and closing the whole time I was downloading the file and for a significant time thereafter. Thought, well, maybe just running the program fixed it. So I restarted the system and am back where I started. Crazy acting DVD drive. What next?????? Thanks. :eek:

    Create a folder in c:\program Files. Name it Process Explorer. Copy the zipped file into that folder (c:\Program Files\Process Explorer), Double click on the zipped file and that will extract all files into the same folder. Click on procexp.exe to run it. Create a shortcut on your Startup screen if you want to run it often. Bazza

    I have a samsung and had the same problem. Do you have AVG installed?

    I ask as when i recently looked to clean my system of spyware and stuff - I uninstalled most things and re-installed the latest versions. When I was installing AVG it mentioned a conflict issue with drive drivers and asked me to install the latest drivers. Since doing this it hasnt opened once.

    However, as I say, the non opening has coincided with me cleaning up all the crap so it could well have been some resident virus/malware.

    I'd do a full clean up.
