DVD won't write

Hi all.
GSA-H31N RW DVD drive.
Never had grief until now.
Opened new pack of 50 Verbatim -R discs.
First attempt with Nero = 'Not able to write disc at once on an open disc'
Second attempt = took ages to attempt to write then told me it had failed??
In fact when I put a blank disc in I get different auto play messages from different discs.
One says 'Open folder to view files', one says 'Burn files to disc/Burn a DVD video disc'

There was me thinking Verbatim was the way to go but apparently not.
Any clues anyone?

The obvious first step would be to try a different brand of media - got any other blanks laying around to see if you can get a change in symptoms?

Also, what's your operating system version and Service Pack #? If your OS supports burning try that instead of Nero - Nero might not be handshaking with the Verbatim disks.

 

Just tried using windows 7 to burn.
It took 4 minutes but told me the process had failed at the end.
I have some DVD RW's to try but I'm pretty sure they will work.
As I said, never had a coaster before.
Looks like I may have bought 50 of them!!
No more Verbatim for me.
I'll try them on my laptop and see if that writer likes them.

 

Tried them in my laptop with a different version of Nero.
Stuck at 45%. Had to cancel the process.
Verbatim SUCK!

 

Update:
Updated my writer firmware, disc burnt but still got strange behaviour, freezes, slow loading etc.
Tried burning at the slowest speed possible (x4) and all seems well.
Very strange, always been able to burn at max speed with less well known discs.
At least it seems I will be able to use the 40 odd discs that I have left.
