    Hello everyone
I have a problem, Never have encountered it before i have 4xLG dvd-ram dvd writer (HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4082B), now at first when i installed windows which was not long ago when i did my last format since things were getting screwed up, it worked for burning dvd's, now the driver seems to be messed up, everytime i try to fix it, the driver says its only a cd-rom device, and when i try to make it read something, nothing happens, every program says their is no disc inserted? can anyone help me with this problem i have tryed several things but would be to long to say, please someone give me some information.

Hi, and welcome to MajorGeeks! More information will be necessary before any help can be given. It would be nice to know your operating system and the DVD/CD burning program that you are using! :)

I am using windows xp professional, i have tryed so many methods and i might have come to a conclusion it is broken, bought it a year ago off ncix.com, now i formatted my comp put on all my programs again and what not, and it still does the same thing, i think the lazer itself is fryed, most likely cannot read dvd's anymore, damn shame, well looks like i might have to spend about 80 bucks on another one, i have a cd writer in my comp to which works fine but the dvd wrtie just one day stopped working so i am still not sure if it is broken but it sure seems like it.

Actually i have been reading up lots of stuff on forums and it seems like windows xp SP(service pack) 2 fixes these problems, but since i have a pirated version of windows xp, i cannot do this, what does this service pack do exactly, is there anyway i can make this work, or fix the problem, i just dont understand how my dvd-wrtier could jsut stop working.

You still didn't say which "burning program" that you were using. All things asked should be answered before expecting help with the problem that you have. Window's itself, doesn't have a driver that you can change, to the best of my knowledge, as it only natively supports the hardware, at present. You did however make a grave mistake! You stated that you had a "pirated" copy of XP! No help will be given on this forum for users of such software!

Sorry about that! Have a nice day! :)
