DVD's from VHS

I have a home video that I want to burn to DVD.
What is the best route to do this?
Currently, I'm doing this:
Recording the vido from vhs to the dvd recorder (Make/Model: Ilo DVDR05)
The recorder can record and when finalized, it can set chapters every 10 minutes. I use DVD+RW disks.
However, when I view the video on any other dvd player, I can't select any specific chapter. All I can do is press the "Next Chapter" button until I get to where I want...and I can't seem to adjust where I actually want the chapters to be. If I watch it in that same Ilo machine, I CAN view individual chapters, but still can't adjust the location of where a chapter starts and stop. I guess you could say that there is no "Menu", per se.

I am using Roxio Media Creator 8.
I've tried to copy the entire contents of the dvd disk to my hard drive, but the last .vob file never seems to be able to copy, something about cylinder problem...whatever that means.

So....what WOULD be the best route to copy a vhs tape so I can add chapters and a menu so I can burn it back to a full DVD R disk

 

Never used Roxio but assume it would be similar to Nero.

You have to not only assign chapters but also create a menu. You know, the one you see at the beginning of a dvd. You get to pick a sence of the dvd & add it to the chapter menu. When you first insert the dvd you see the menu & get to pick the chapter.

yes, i understand that, but when i import the video, there are chapters already there and it won't let me edit them.
However, i think i got it...but recording the tape with no automatic chapters, then import off the dvd rw and then i can insert the chapters and menu.

Yep that should do it. Assign the chapters yourself later.
