    Hi everyone,

I've just tried playing a DVD, that I've played many times before in my windows XP SP2 laptop, but it doesn't have any sound. Visuals are working, but with no sound. However, a regular music CD seems to work fine with all audio functioning as it should. It does this in all my media players. Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance!

A similar thing happened to a friend's computer when I was there the other day. I took a DVD to show him, whch worked fine on both of my machines. But when it played on his (almost new Dell) there was no sound. It worked ok the last time I was there, with a DVD burnt using the same software. I wondered if one of the windows updates might have upset things. In the end, the way we got it to play properly was to download VLC media player.:)

Oh yes, just thought of another idea. You could try it and see if it works. Click Start, Run, and type in mplayer2. This should bring up windows media player version 6.4. It's a bit old looking but it would be interesting to see if it plays the DVD with sound. If it does, and you want to create a shortcut to it on the desktop, right click an empty area of the desktop, click New, and Sortcut, then navigate to mplayer 2 in Program Files (in my computer), local disk c (usually) windows, program files, windows media player.
