Dvds take forever to burn

I was wondering, how long is it supposed to take for someone to burn 4gb worth of video files? I'm trying to burn some mpg video files onto a dvd and it says that those eight files (about 4.14gb) are going to take almost 6 hours to transcode?. what does transcode mean and is this speed normal? btw, im using Nero.

 

sounds like you are compressing/decompressing the video which takes hours and hours to do

Try burning it in normal mode(whatever it is with nero, I'm not familiar with it) if it is an mpeg-1 (or 2) file it *should* play if your DVD player can play VCDs. Although, there are many different mpeg formats and most likely you would have to convert it to DVD playable format. And the conversion process does take hours. (not the actual burning process)

You should condider making the source file in a DVD playable format to begin with to skip the conversion process.

If it is a problem with the burning process itself(which I tend to doubt) the only thing that pops in mind is either the obvious spyware/malware removal, and that DMA is not enabled, goto start>control panel>admin tools>computer management>device manager>IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers>[the controller device your DVD is attached to]>right click>properties>advanced settings>in the transfer mode row select "DMA if available" in the drop down menu. In the "Current transfer mode" it should say something like "Ultra DMA Mode 2"
