DVDs wont play

Suddenly the DVDs I write in my DVD writer will not play in my DVD ROM reader. In fact the drive won't even recognize a DVD in the tray. Other DVDs work fine, including ones that I previously wrote on the same DVD writer. The new DVDs are the same brand.

 

...the new DVds are +R, the ones that work are +RW.

So some DVD's are working in that reader!?! And are you saying it is only the DVD-R format that are not being recognised but DVD-RW are?!?

Bit more info would be helpful: Make and model of Drive unit and Application being used for burning.

Some obvious ques:
Are you using the same app to burn the DVD's?
Have you tried the troubleshooter in the device manager?
Checked for new drivers and updated (possibly firmware as well)?
Checked within the app itself to see whether there is an option you need to change?

 

The DVD ROM is part of my Dell 8300 and the app is Sonic. There is no firmware update from Dell. The +RW discs work but the +R doesn't--same writer. The DVD ROM won't recognize that the DVD is in the drive. I ran the Dell 32 bit diagnostics and the device managerand both checked out. Are there settings in the Sonic app that need adjustment. Someone mentioned DLA but that doesn't appear in the settings. What should happen when a blank, unused DVD is placed in the DVD ROM? Whenever I insert a new disc, XP continues to ask for a disc.

 

This is beyond me and I hope someone else can help you now you have provided more info. Have you tried a different copying app? Maybe CloneDVD?
