    Hi,

Getting terribly confused about what type of DVI-D cable I need.

I have a somewhat old 19" Dell monitor which has a single link DVI-D port (as per pic below)

My VGA is an MSI GTX 660 (N660_TF_2GD5OC) which has a dual link DVI-D port.

Do I need a single link or dual link cable to connect them? Was searching this and can't seem to understand, especially after reading this thread and in particular the post which says:

    https://superuser.com/questions/440...vi-cable-be-connected-to-a-dual-link-dvi-port

"Yes you can connect a single link DVI cable to a dual link DVI port but not the opposite."

I bought a dual link DVI-D cable, as per link below, but am weary of connecting it until I am sure that I am not going to damage anything.

    Many thanks for any help

    Cheers

You need the single link because of your monitor's single link DVI connector. The cable you purchased is not compatible with your monitor.
