DVI to Analogue

Hi, I was hoping for a quick explanation,

I have just been gifted a rather nifty little water cooled computer. However it came without a monitor.

I quckly realised that the new computer only has a DVI connection for the monitor which is sadly incompatible with the VGA 15pin chord that comes from my old monitor.

I did a quick search through google and came up with this cord:

Obviously, for that money, I may aswell buy a monitor! (Which I cannot right now afford to do).

Is this the only solution? Or should I be able to find a cheaper solution?

Thanks for that mate. It is good to see the cost has dropped from $200 over to $3.

But what is the difference? Why is the chord I posted up orignially so expensive?

The chord I posted up, as far as I understand, convert the digital signal coming from the video card, to analog so the screen can understand it.

By using a simple adapter, will there not be any problem regarding the format of the signal? I assume by only having a DVI socket, that my video card sends out a digital signal. Will the signal be understood by my monitor?

Sorry, my knowledge is bare minimum. It's just that I'm having recollections of using my smarts as an 8 year old using three different adaptors to connect a 110 volt appliance to a 240 volt power supply

 

I have no idea why that would be so much, i have like 4 of em laying around my house. Shouldn't be more then 10-20 bucks though. No you won't have signal problems, but even if you do, its 15 instead of 200 or so
