dx10 doesn't seem compatible with BF2

I really haven't had bf2 all that long. Anyway, I just downloaded dx10 and installed it. It workes fine with Oblivion. However, when I try to run the patched version of bf2, so that I can play online servers, I get an error message that says that I have to have directx 9.0c or higher installed. With the original version of BF2, I still get the error message after the initial "Battlefield 2" screen, but it somehow goes on and the game will still run fine. When I install the 4.1 patch OR 4.0 patch, it will crash to windows right after the "Battlefield 2" screen.

I have been running tests all day trying to resolve the issue. I have uninstalled dx10 (as i really don't need it right now anyway) and reinstalled 9.0c. Then I run a dxdiag and it states that my current version is still 10. So, I looked up online how to uninstall directx manually and it said to simply delete the registry folder and do a clean boot. Did that. It worked except for re-installing the original 8.0 directx. I had no directx at all. So, I tried to install a fresh copy of 9.0c and only got an error because of some file not found. Then I had to roll back my pc with sys restore to yesterday. Now I'm back to "uninstalled", or so it says, version of dx10 and installed 9.0c. However, the dxdiag still says that it is 10.

I really don't know much about editing registry values and most of what I read says not to. How do I resolve this?

I would keep dx10 if I could figure out how to get it to work with the updated version of bf2, but I don't think it's going to happen. I've read through another forum with this problem and for most of them it was a monitor refresh rate issue. Because of the error messages I get and the fact that I have tried ALL the different settings my monitor has and even changing the original Profile files for BF2 to 800x600 60hz, deleting them, etc. I am now convinced that it is simply a compatibility issue with dx10. My pc just needs to be able to read dx9.0c for now.

Could someone who understands registry values help me with this issue?

Hey all, just wanted to let you know that I have done some reading on this and realized that dx just isn't typically created to be uninstalled...ever. So, after a good deal of working on it, I realized that it was easier just to reinstall winxp. Just wanted to let you know that it's all taken care of before anyone spent much time on this topic. thanks
