Dynex IEEE 1394 Firewire Notebook Card...

Yesterday I purchased the Dynex Firewire card and the firewire of the same brand. When I intalled the card into my laptop and hooked my camera up to everything it was all recognized by my computer and seemed to be working... until i started capturing video. Upon seeing a preview of my first capture I was suprised to find that both the sound and video are distorted. I am running on a fairly new computer that meets all the requirements.(Gateway mx3228) and I'm not sure why I'm having this problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.

What do you mean by preview?

1)hardware issues
Most pcs are not fast enough to display in real time whilst editing or capturing so the result is your picture/sound is distorted whilst the pc is trying to do too many tasks at once. Having captured or edited the playback should then be OK.

20 Software issues
There are two standards going with iee1394 video (Microsoft and Texas Instruments) you will need to select the correct one in your capture program by experiment. Some cheap capture/editing programs only manage good output back to tape and all the intermediate stages are ropey.

by preview I meant watching the capture as it happens. As for programs I used Vegas 7, Nero Vision 4, and Windows Movie Maker. Now, that whole thing about Texas Instruments and Microsoft... tell me more. And yes this does help, thank you.
