Hey I was wondering if anyone here might be able to help me out. I just got an E-mu 1212M PCIe sound card. I am running Vista x64 Home Premium, Quad-Core 1.8GHz, 5GB ram. I was running on an e-mu 0404 standard PCI card before. I uninstalled the old card and the the drivers completely before trying to install my new card. Put in the new card installed the drivers and the patch mix dsp program, but every time I try to play sounds in winamp or Internet Explorer or any other source that runs on the wave channel, after about a min the whole computer locks up followed by a high pitch sound and then my screen pixel-ating forcing me to do a hard power off. Anyone got any Ideas I have been messing with this for almost a week now. Thanks!

    MJF,
Have you found a solution to this problem? Creative Labs tech support was very un-useful and not very technical. I am having the same exact problems with mine, I have upgraded to windows seven from Vista 64 because of this card, and still having problems

Yes I did finally get it working after 2 pain staking weeks...... What worked for me was getting the beta drivers for some reason.... I uninstalled the other driver through the control panel....but did not uninstall the patchmix DSP app...then I installed the beta version of the drivers and it worked....all e-mu's instructions say to install drivers first...but doing the reverse worked for me...hope that helps.....I will see if i still have the e-mail i sent them when it was fresh in my mind...if i can i will post it for you...

This was my final response to e-mu letting them know what worked...

Thanks for the support.... I finally got it working!!!! Just to let you know what worked for me in case anyone else has this issue.... I uninstalled the current driver, but did not uninstall patchmix DSP...Restated when prompted, then I installed the Beta Driver 2_30_00. Don't know why this worked, but it did...I was using the more current patchmix dsp from the web page. It is weird cause the driver I uninstalled was the full release of 2_30_00 and got it working with the beta version of 2_30_00....oh well whatever I am just happy to have a working sound card again..... Now off to the studio I go )...

    hope it helps!!!!

both you guys have been a lot of help, I will search out the beta version, MFJ, I am envious!(wish i was in my studio recording) I actually had vista 64 and I upgraded(?) to windows 7 64 bit as I was having problems with my 1010m which was the card for the 1616microdoc. So new card, new operating system = epic fail. Again, I will hunt that beta version down and try it. I have also been mailing (one question at a time) the E-mu tech support.

You are more than welcome!!!! Glad to be of assistance to get someone back in their studio!!! Thought I might bounce this one off of you.... Ever since switching to vista when I try to record audio i end up getting choppy results sometimes...but the audio comming out of the sound card to the speakers if fine...it use to only happen every once in a while and restarting my computer would fix it for a while, but now it chopps out most times and only on occasion can i get good audio recorded....any one got any Ideas to try??? Thanks!!

what kind of music do you make?

I make experimental music mostly electronic experimental..you? You can hear some at www.myspace.com/ssyx Though I haven't posted anything on the web for quite some time. About your recording issue...which DAW do you use? You should have a latency setting. You should be able to adjust. Also have you tried to record, watching the emu dsp to see if the crackeling/ studdering is coming from the strip you are using? The strip that's making the noise you are recording?

Yes I have tried that...no studdering on the patch mix and as i said...it is streaming through the sound card to the speakers and that out put is fine...just what ever is recording..like usualy i use Cool Edit Pro to record my DJ Mixes and sometimes I record with a webcam using the soundcard as the mic..alo if I try to play music in chat rooms it does it...I hear it fine, but everyone else says its F-ed up...have never had this issue until i got on to vista...might just upgrade to 7...I spin & produce Drum & Bass you can check me out on http://www.soundcloud.com/mfj

Ok. I think I know what's going on here..so when you are using a mic. It sounds good to you but not to anyone else...I was getting an issue like that with teamspeak when using my vocoder as a mic on a regular mic setting...which I think but not sure, you are using your web cam as a microphone? Let me ask my friends what we did to correct that error. Are you going direct to your soundcard or do you have a microdoc? When you put music into the chat room are you dragging and dropping a file into a chat window? Hard to type on this android forgive the typos

What I am doing is using the soundcard as the mic....so instead of the mic on the cam it plays what my sound card is playing...I use it to record my DJ mixes this way...basicly I have all my external sound hardware hooked up to a mixer with a Spdif output...I am running that into my 1212 spdif input...when in a chat room i shouldjust be able to use a music player to play the song and it will get it from my soundcard...it is set in recording devices to disable the reg mic and use Wave - Emu audio processor instead...so basicly anything I hear the room hears too...

Hmmm is your volume in the chat window turned on so you can hear everything that's going on in the chat room? If so... I reckon it maybe feedback. Let me do some checking around when I get home...ill be of much more help there then here at work.

ok many more resources here. in windows vista is there a shortcut for Cool Edit Pro? If so, try right clicking the cool edit pro shortcut on your desktop, then click properties, then compatibility tab, click the box then select "run this program in compatibility mode for" : then choose windows xp service pack 2. Id probably restart your machine then , right click on the cool edit pro shortcut again and click 'run as administrator' then click 'allow'. I dont think your DAW is compatible with Vista, if you had no problems till you went to vista. hopefully this works...we can try other things too.. To be honest with you though, id upgrade one of these programs.Windows vista to win 7. (there is a website to see if your pc is compatible for win 7, id check into that first before spending your hard earned loot. Also this program is now known as Adobe Audition looks like it retails for around 200 bucks, where windows 7 upgrade is 125...I will say Windows 7 is nice cause it seems more versatile.

Yeah I have tried Adobe Audition as well and get the same results....Will prolly just upgrade to 7 and hope that fixes it...THANKS for all your input though....

Wow this worked for me too, I had the same problem freeze / locking up / bsod even. I thought it was my gigabyte motherboard faulty on the pcie slots. For some reason the beta drivers seem to work fine? Many thanks to you sir :)
