Now that I got the video upgraded and such , could I upgrade to a E5300 (for the cheaper price than a Core2Duo) on my Inspiron 530d ? The website claims it'll support anything but a Quad. (The Inspiron 530, 530a, c , blah blah will but NOT the D).

    Motherboard model is 0RY007

Sounds like you have the same motherboard that i have on my Dell and this is my support thread and what they came up with for me.

I know it doesnt help much, and its not exactly the same pc, but im assuming they will come up with a similar answer. Which means to find out FOR SURE, you would have to get in touch with Dell directly.

Id also attach an Everest and maybe even a Cpu-z report to your post.

I have to say, other than the actual model number, that board is the exact same as mine, and i have a Dual Core E5400 processor with a 775 socket.

So i should imagine that it would work. Make sure the first page of cpu-z(the cpu page) has the socket info, should be a 775 LGA

Dell fed me a line of @*#($@#)$@#(*$@ , saying upgrading the processor can cause 'instability in the system'. I replied and trying to get a real answer from the <removed offensive references>

Thank you for replying. I appreciate your patience and cooperation.

I can understand from your e mail that you want to know if you can upgrade the system processor to atleast 2.4 GHz.

James, I have searched for the processors that are compatible with your Dell Inspron D 530 system.

Following are the few models that are compatible with your system.

    Conroe Kit, E4700, 2.6G, 2MB, 800FSB, G0

    Conroe Kit, E6700, 2.66G, 4MB, 1066FSB, B2

    Wolfdale Dual Core Kit, E8400, 3.0G, 6MB, 1333FSB, 65W, C0

    Wolfdale Dual Core Kit, E8500, 3.16G, 6MB, 1333FSB, 65W, C0

we do not suggest and support processor upgrade as this might render some of the connected hardware and could cause issues with the functionality, however if you want, you can go ahead and use the above models for your computer.
