I know this is a shot in the dark here, but it's worth trying...

Does anyone happen to know if the AMI BIOS v1.0 on a MSI P7N Diamond mother board will work with a Intel Core 2 Duo E7200 CPU? (S-Spec: SLAVN)

I have an E8400 that will eventually go on that board, and it will work with the AMI BIOS v1.2... but I have to get it to boot up before I can go grab the updated BIOS.

I would kind of like to know my odds of success before I pull the E7200 out of another machine and drop it into the new one... not that I am running low on thermal paste... it's just extra steps that may or may not work.

The http://global.msi.com/tw site says the E7200 is "Under Testing" with this mobo/BIOS.

Anyway, this is my shot in the dark...

Thanks for taking the time to read this!

    Cheers!

Well if the MSI site states the CPU is under testing (R&D) that at least means they have put it onto the board and booted but honestly no-one can give you an accurate and honest answer unless they work within the MSI R&D department. Your question has been partially resolved by yourself and they are the only people that could give you any "assurances".

    Thank you for posting.

Like I said, it was a shot in the dark... that on the outside chance someone has tried this configuration and would know the results.

I am in the process of swapping CPU's right now... I will post my results to this thread.

    Thanks again!

It worked. Installed XP, updated the BIOS, switched CPUs and all's well.

Excellent that's very good to hear, I'm sure the vast majority of the times if it is on their site as "under testing" then the probability that it will work is good.

Yeah, I was happy. I am glad I snagged that other CPU from my Husband's machine to do it too... seems he got a little 'happy' with the Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste, it was oozing out around his CPU, bracket and the base of the heatsink/fan unit. So I put it back in the right way. Might have saved us some bucks too, since they aren't cheap to replace.
