Hello, I am new to the forum and having troubles with Electronic Arts downloader. The problem is that when I initialize the program, I get a prompt that says "Your current security seetings inhibit activex controls from running on this page and it may not load properly". I then get a partial log on page that allows me to enter my user name and password then I can go no farther, no way to log in and get the Battlefield 2 Euroforce booster that I purchased through EA. I have been working with EA support for over a week with no results. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, tweaking my browser security settings, deleting EA's registry key, creating a new admin. account on my machine and loading the EA downloader to it, the list goes on and nothing has been resolved. I am running Windows XP home, SBC/Yahoo DSL, McAfee virus scan and Firewall, latest versions, Internet Explorer 6, and I have Service Pack 2 installed. I have my browser set to accept activex controls. I am not the most computer literate person but I am able to follow instructions and find things you may like to know or things for me to try or configure. I have also ran virus scans with McAfee and Trendmicro with no ill findings and also have ran Spybot S+D and Lavasoft Adware. I welcome anyones comments or requests for more information, Thank You in advance.

did u click the "allow active x control to be installed on this page"? (or something like that) It drops down a little message at the top of the web page on those type of sites.

o yeah, welcome to MG

Thanks, I know what bar you are talking about, but I did not see that when I downloaded the software. Oddly enough though I feel this is very simple, I think maybe EA support is going overboard instead of looking at the obvious. I have my browsers security settings set exactly like a freind of mines that got this to work flawless. I asked if he got a drop down menu on activex when he downloaded it and sadly enough does not remember.

If you go to http://www.pcpitstop.com/testax.asp can you install the active X control and see the clock animation? If not, the site includes some good on-line guides for settings and such.

Active X may just be broken on your computer.

    Any security software?

If you are hard-wired with a high-speed connection, does it work in safe mode with networking (tap "F8" while the computer is starting up)?

Have you tried navigating the site through a different browser?

Thanks for all the advice, it seems that one of two things I did solved this. Out of desperation, I ran and posted a Hijack this log and was advised to remove a few entries, mostly ones pertaining to Yahoo. I also looked in depth at my firewall settings. I noticed that the EA downloader had full access to the internet, but by checking the event log I could see that EA desktop client was trying to get out but could not. I gave permission to EA desktop client and the EA downloader worked. I think it was a firewall issue more than the Hijack This, it is just that I did them at the same time. Thanks again for your help.

Check your firewall settings and make sure the EA has permission to get out. Also check manage add ons under your internet settings to make sure it has permission.

Does EA desktop client have permission from firewall??? It sounds like you are seeing the same EA screen I did. I run McAfee and even though EA asked permission and was granted it I still had to "manually" enter EA desktop client into the firewall and internet settings as safe. Also check under trusted sites in the internet options and make sure it (the EA) is there. Make sure your security settings are default at medium. EA was of little or no help to me too.

You are using internet explorer 6? Under tools, internet options, security, click trusted sites and see if EA and EAdesktop client are a trusted site?
