seriously, what is the connection between the easter bunny and the resurrection of jesus?

ive always wondered this...could someone help?

Eastre (earlier, Eostre, derived from the Saxons' Germanic heritage) was the Anglo-Saxon name of a Teutonic goddess of dawn, spring and fertility. Our word, "east" is related to this deity's name. Her male consort was the Sun god, and the sun does rise, after all, at dawn and in the east. Rites of spring were celebrated in her honour at the vernal equinox (first day of spring). The first Sunday after the first full moon succeeding the vernal equinox was also sacred to her, and this pagan holiday was given her name -- Eastre. The full moon represented the "pregnant" phase of Eastre -- she was passing into the fertile season and giving birth to the Sun's offspring.
Eastre's symbols were the hare and the egg. Both represent fertility and, consequently, rebirth. Since rabbits are more common in most lands than hares, over time the rabbit has been substituted -- not without merit, since rabbits are notorious for their fertility. Thus was born the "Easter Rabbit" tradition.

The interesting thing is that most Christian holidays borrow their dates and some of their customs from Pagan holidays. It was all part of an effort to convert the Pagans sneakily.

 

This is an easy one. God put some decorated eggs in Jesus' tomb. The Easter bunny hopped by, smelled the eggs, rolled the boulder from in front of the tomb and went and hid the eggs.

The Easter bunny is OCD, checks his eggs every year, the day before Easter, and replaces all the ones that were stolen by the two legged thieves. God has a funny sense of humor, the bunny prays for sharp teeth and to become carniverous, but all he gets is colored eggs.

Well, I am not blending. I just attempt to help people, and post the parts of my thoughts that are fitting to the type of site that this is. If you could only read the posts I hit the back button instead of Submit Reply... :-D

I am not the best at debating without getting angry. That is what I try to keep out. Especially when the one I am debating is so obviously wrong. :-D I am glad you noticed the new and improved Fred_G. This is Service Pack 2 for me.

My friend was reading your post over my shoulder, (as you do), and she wondered what an O.C.D. rabbit would be like. I told her "it's something you should relate too". She started with the stern look of daggers that can kill at 30 paces, and asked me, "So you're calling me Obsessive-Compulsive, aye?"

I said, "No, not Obsessive-compulsive - just the rabbit part." ...And that's when the fight started. rolleyes
