I think I know the answer, but just to confirm:
2 Xp pro machines on a home network, one has a shared folder with some music. Are there any issues with scaning the shared files in the on one P.C. with the AV on the other without actually copying or moving the files over? Just opening the share and scanning from there.

This depends on you antivirus application. I'm running AVG Free edition and it will only let you scan local drives.

You should give it a whirl. I don't think you'll cause any harm. Worst case: your app can't scan shared folders. For a simple home network, it should be just as easy to have all computers running the app (especially if its free). This would cover the shared folder, but on the local machine.

Well it seems to work fine with Avast. Good to know I guess. Thanks Milty.
