Recently I have been spending alot of time on ebay trying to find things to decorate my dorm with. The thing I was wondering is it safe to buy an autographed item off ebay? Ive seen alot of them and they are very cheap. Are these usually authentic or rip offs?

Really depends on the seller. If they are 0-low rating, you want to be able to have a phone number so they can be found later and read the auction as to how to authenticate it. Otherwise, people with large feedback numbers and high percentage of good feedback can usually be trusted.

They do have high feedbacks. The thing that bugs me is that these things should easily sell for over $100 and they are going for $1 with and hour left and no bids on them yet.

Usually members with high ratings and at least 99.9% feedback rating are genuine. Look for Power Sellers. Ask the seller any question before bidding, like can they prove authenticity of the item? Feedback is a good starting point for dealing with any particular seller :)

Keeping above 99% is always a good start

95% sounds good, but if a seller has 200 sales and a rating of 95%
that still = 10 unsatisfied customers (for whatever reason)
plus the buyers who were not willing to submit negative feedback.

As far as your particular case goes, I guess it depends on whether you can get the signatures verified once you have bought them.
If that is feasible, you could buy one and then if the product is authentic you would have faith in that particular seller for the future.
If the item for sale is only a dollar, chances are it does not come with any physical proof of authenticity; but if it is a fake you are not losing a lot anyway.

Quick disagreement, 99.9% is great, but not a requirement. 96-97% is fine. People are lazy, stupid and rude and if you read people feedback, you will often find a few negative feedbacks can be related to a person who maybe shipped a little late due to a family emergency, etc.

    I have 2 negative feedbacks.

1 was from a guy reselling arcade machines. He refused to give me an address and allow me to pick it up, because he was a scammer. He has a -2 feedback after all of this and his account removed. He was also arrested. Ebay refuses to remove this negative feedback from me from years ago.

The other was when I sold a slot machine. I did not know how to ship it, sold it cheap, the reason being the buyer needed to arrange shipping per auction description. After it sold, I received no response after a week until I said I would leave negative feedback. He suddenly responds claiming I refused to ship it and proceeded to leave negative feedback. That right, he responded to me only ONCE.

As you can see, in a world full of self absorbed morons, a handful of negative feedback is not all bad.

Very true MA. I have a couple people I buy from on a regular basis on e-bay that have 96-ish % positive, but have never had any problems. Granted, I'm not a fan boy looking for autographed stuff (no offense, if it makes you happy, rock on out with it), but I do look for good deals and quality stuff. been lucky so far, waiting on my new GPS travel unit to show up.

It also helps if you know other people interested in similar items who shop e-bay. I was talking to a friend of mine from camp a few weeks ago and found that he had bought several times from a seller I was checking out and was very happy. COnsidering the fact that they sell custom made clothing, I figured it was nice to know that he thinks very highly of them.

    Just my thoughts.

I read an article about autographed memorabilia a couple of years ago stating that a ridiculously low percent of stuff is actually authentic (I'm going to say 30-40%, but I really can't remember). This was not just off of ebay either.

I think I'd live by the rule 'if something seems too good to be true, it probably isn't.' ::shrug:: Just my thoughts. If you really want real stuff, you should probably get it somewhere that is reputable and allows returns if it isn't.

To my point...I had a friend who's husband collected the stuff. He had over $100,000 worth of the stuff in his basement.rolleyes Anyway, he got into financial probs and went to sell it and a few of them were fakes.

As far as her feedback goes, she looks very good. She allows returns also, if you don't mind paying for the return shipping.

Again, it's a matter of if it's real. But for that price, really I'm not sure it's all that important, but would say it's more than likely to be a copy.

I agree people get hasty and leave negative feedback for whatever reason. If you stick above 96% and look at the negatives they received as well as who left them, you can make a solid decision on whether or not they're safe to deal with. I'm at 97.6% - 127 positives, and 3 negatives. I've been selling since 2003.

My first negative was left more than a month after the auction had ended. I pride myself on a 24 hour turn around period and I try to get my items there as quickly as possible and in the best shape as possible. Out of nowhere I get this negative that said I never shipped the item and wouldn't issue a refund. Little did this woman know that I had delivery confirmation that the item arrived at her house just three days after mailing. Plus, she never contacted me in the month after the auction to find out where her item was. She wouldn't even communicate with me after leaving the feedback... Ebay refused to remove this one even though I had proof that the item was delivered.

My second negative came after I had a buyer never send me payment. I spent 3 weeks cordially asking for payment via email and phone but they never sent it. I filled a non-paying-bidder complaint with ebay and received the negative from the buyer the next day. The negative said I never sent the item, that I was a scammer, F---- etc… Then I got a bunch of threatening emails with profanity and horribly misspelled words. Ebay refused to remove this feedback as well.

My third and last feedback that I received in August of 05 was from a guy with 0 feedback who bought a broken piece of hardware from me. I specifically stated in the title, subtitle, and description several times, as well as the return policy and shipping policy that the item was broken and was for parts only. Sure enough a week after shipping, I get a negative from him saying that the item was broken…. Seriously.

To be honest, if you look at her feedback all she seems to sell is autographed photos. My question would be if they are authentic and she's a stay at home mom, where does she get all the pictures from?

Chances are at .99 cents its not authentic but if that doesnt matter to you I'd say go for it. Since there is 4 days left on the auction you could always send her a email asking her if they are authentic and if so can she verify?
