ECC and non ECC RAM

ok, i'm running a dell 8250. i'm currently using two sticks of RDRAM pc1066 128mb(ECC). and i just ordered two more 128mb sticks(non ECC).. will the non ECC ram work with the ECC ram? and also(this is a pretty stupid question), will mixing two different brands of RAM make any difference? cause i'm using samsung right now and the ram i ordered was kingston.

 

ECC and non-ECC. Hmm. Some motherboards throw a wobbley if you try to use both kinds. It is advisable to use ECC RAM in your setup, otherwise you would use the ECC functionality.

With ECC really you need matched pairs to make the most, you may see a slight performance decreace if you use different brands.

Try it. If it doesn't work, just return it.

 

I would try disabling the ECC function in the BIOS and pray that all works fine. I don't know if you already knew this or not, but Kingston says that "This system/device is listed by Kingston as 'No longer supported'" for your computer. you should check this link out. I would advise buying directly from Dell if the Kingston RAM doesn't work.
