Would much appreciate some guidance - a nasty echo effect accompanies any sounds I try and run. System is 2000 pro (with 2003 office on top, though echo predates this installation). I have searched the forum, but nothing much on this subject. I've tried 2 options -

    # turned off sound effects (control panel/sound effects manager) - all I can say it's better than with any effects on, but still almost useless

    # uninstalled all sound progs I can find, including quicktime, realplayer, and finally windows media player version 9.0. There is an oddlooking device called AVRack (realtek) still there.

However if I search (from start menu) for windows media there still seem to be bundles of related files still in there. I wonder if there might be 2 programmes running at (very nearly) the same time?

    Any suggestions much valued.

First, make sure you have the latest drivers for your sound card.
