I'm having a problem with this Mobo, which has a 2.8 Ghz Prescott P4. I need to update the BIOS, apparently, because Windows XP SPII caused a massive crash...

Does anyone know if, other than BIOS, there's a difference between the ECS 865PE-A 1.2 and the 865PE-A 2.0? In other words, will a BIOS update for a version 2.0 Mobo work with a version 1.2?? (maybe this is a software question)

    Thanks for the help

No. If they are different model numbers, the BIOS will not work.

They are the same model number-865 PE-A. The version number of the MB is different, but the model number is the same.

At any rate, I was hoping someone else out there had a similar problem with this mobo/processor combination after installing SPII. Since it crashed my machine the first time, and since I haven't modified anything, it's safe to assume that it (Service Pack 2) will crash it again.

    A. Son, thanks for the reply. I already have the d/l site for the BIOS updates-I'm just trying to figure out which one, if any, I need.

I've got an e-mail off to ECS; I'll just wait until they respond.

    Thanks

If you'll notice, the model numbers are not the same.

    865 PE-A (1.2)
    865 PE-A (2.0)

The different revisions refer to changes in the PCB. (the actual hardware) So, no, the BIOS for one will probably not work with the other.

    Wyatt...

Sorry if my last post seemed confrontational. I was using info that I had gotten from the manufacturer (ECS) previously. They referred to 865PE-A as the model number, and 1.2 or 2.0 as the version number. I wasn't sure what the difference was, but if the PCB has physical changes from one version to another.....well, I suppose you answered my question. The BIOS revision which addresses a Prescott processor is for a different version/model Mobo (2.0)and won't work on mine (1.2), so I'm back to square one.

Microsoft has a patch to address this prob so I'll just hope it works. I'm back into the software forum 'cause I'm getting out of hardware territory.

    Thanks for the info
